A Surprise Visit to Gold Creek Lodge!

As we enter the heart of September, bear activity at Brooks Falls and around Gold Creek Lodge is in full swing! Our furry residents are busy preparing for winter, and we’re excited to share the latest updates from our team.

“There have been two cubs joining us at Gold Creek. The little bears have been eating the flowers outside the cabins and playing by the lodge!”

– Onna

We woke up one morning to such a delightful surprise! It’s been an adorable sight watching these cubs explore the lodge grounds, snacking on flowers and frolicking nearby. Their playful energy is a joy for guests and a reminder of the thriving wildlife around us.

“Chunk is still in his usual spot at the falls preparing for hibernation. A lot of the bears are still foraging for berries throughout the park. There are still a ton of bears walking the river!”

– Eli

Chunk, a fan favorite, remains a steadfast presence at the falls, fattening up for hibernation. With berries in abundance throughout the park, many bears are spreading out, foraging along the riverbanks, ensuring they pack on those crucial winter pounds.

“The bears are becoming more active at Brooks again. Fewer fish are jumping the falls, so they are finding their fish in additional spots along the river.”

– Devin

As the salmon runs begin to slow, the bears are adapting, seeking their meals in quieter parts of the river. This shift in behavior is providing even more bear sightings for our visitors as the bears spread out to different fishing spots.

It’s been an exciting September at Brooks Falls and Gold Creek Lodge, with bear activity reaching new heights as we approach winter. Stay tuned for more updates as our bears continue their preparation for the long hibernation ahead!
